Clean energy groups call for East-West grid

Clean-energy organizations are urging the federal government to improve existing power infrastructure and connect electricity systems across provincial and territorial borders. Their proposal centres on expanding the grid with renewable power as Canada's energy needs grow.

Supporters say stronger interprovincial connections could help improve energy affordability and security while supporting employment in the clean-energy sector. They are also calling for a national approach that protects the environment and includes Indigenous governance.

The appeal comes as the federal clean-energy strategy promised by Prime Minister Mark Carney has yet to be introduced. The coalition wants Ottawa to work with provincial, territorial, Indigenous and utility partners on a coordinated plan.
